I have lived in West Virginia almost 21 years now and I love the life I’ve made here.  However, not a day goes by that I don’t wish my family lived closer.  Of course, I’ve made family here: Olivia, Kendall, my in-laws, and a few friends that may as well be blood related, but I really miss that I can’t call up my mom to go for a walk in the park or play games with my granny on any given day.  In order to see them it has become a two day, painstaking trip due to Olivia’s abhorrence for traveling.

Kendall knows and somewhat understands this.  As such, he recently suggested that we find someplace cool at the halfway point so that we could visit for a long weekend and no one would have to drive too terribly far.  This idea was unanimously exalted, and research for a destination ensued immediately.

After some searching, we ended up at Edgewater Resort on Taylorsville Lake in Kentucky.  It was the perfect halfway point; no one had to drive farther than six hours.  Kendall, the brave soul, endured three nights in a cabin full of women with my mom, aunt, granny, Olivia and me.  He took the noise, jabs and hen clucking well …Although he did go on several self-appointed errands to find food, a booster seat for Olivia, etc. – or maybe primarily alcohol haha.

It was a nice little resort.  The cabin was more like a medium sized house since we rented the one with three bedrooms.  The lake was beautiful, although it wasn’t accessible from the cabin, which we found a bit disappointing.  However, the trees hadn’t yet completely budded out so the view from the deck was really quite nice.

We enjoyed our stay immensely.  There was lots of chatting, laughing, cooking and eating (hey, we’re Italian), doting on Olivia, game playing, a few threats issued when I kept beating Granny at cards, and gloating when she finally won a few.  The weather cooperated for the most part and we took full advantage of the spring sunshine as we sat on the deck or went for walks.  The resort even had a little spa which gave my aunt and me the perfect excuse to treat ourselves to a massage, which was wonderful.  I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a weekend!

In all it was a nice place and location.  I’m sure we will be visiting it again for future rendezvous.  Next time maybe we can get the whole family to come for a vacation/reunion.
