Our beautiful state never fails to impress residents and visitors alike with its spectacular display of fall foliage. This year was naturally no exception. Admittedly though, I was a bit worried since this season the trees seemingly had a slow start and then suddenly burst into color just before the rain and wind whisked the changing leaves to the ground. It was still gorgeous though and much to Olivia’s dismay I made it a point to drive to as many scenic destinations as her patience with car rides would allow.
We ventured to the top of the tower at Pipestem, to the New River George Bridge, Fayette Station Road, took several walks at Little Beaver State Park, and got some of the best images at Grandview Park right before all of the leaves dropped. Those are just to name a few, and of course I had my camera handy pretty much every time we journeyed out – even to the store. At one point, I was asked by a passing motorist if I was alright or needed any help since I was parked on the side of the road hanging out my window. I smiled, said thank you, and waved her on. After she noticed my camera she probably deemed that the kind of help I needed was not of the tow truck variety.
Almost as impressive as the trees, was the sheer number of visitors I encountered while out and about. And I was thrilled to notice people everywhere “leaf peeping” with actual real cameras and not cell phones. I shared a few moments of camaraderie with camera toting strangers as we enjoyed autumn at its finest. This beautiful country never ceases to amaze me.
