My hubby and I are like night and day, and have basically zero things in common. Seriously… You could probably name just about any activity or topic and we would disagree (possibly vehemently so). We also just celebrated another anniversary. Yep; 16 years ago, we promised to love one another till death do us part. The good news is that we haven’t killed each other yet! And not to brag or anything, but neither of us is even plotting an untimely demise, because for some crazy reason, we’re kinda amazing together. There’s certainly no shortage of love and affection, but the really impressive part is that we actually still like each other. (Okay, MOST of the time.) Of course, I tell him that it’s because I’m so patient and probably well on my way to sainthood, haha.
I don’t know all the secrets to a happy marriage. I suspect it’s a different answer for everyone. Obviously, love, trust, respect, communication, and such are high on the list. I would also think that compatibility would be as well… I suppose Kendall and I are a bit of an anomaly. Oh, we have some common ground on at least a few things, but truth be told, I actually attribute much of our successful relationship to all the laughter. We have a good time – like, a really good time. I do silly and ridiculous things, he makes witty jokes about my outrageous shenanigans, and we laugh – A LOT!!! Every dang day.
And that’s where we are clearly made for each other. I’ve never met anyone who is more sarcastic, quick witted, and hilarious. Which pairs splendidly with my quirky personality and the ridiculous things I say and do. Kendall often says that he needs to “start writing this shit down” because he could make millions as a standup comedian by simply recounting daily life with me. What can I say? I’m fun, and keep things interesting, haha. The other night, we were laughing so hard my cheeks hurt, which is much better than my occasional dash to the bathroom to make sure I don’t wet myself. (Thanks motherhood.)
Who would have thought a prissy, hippie, city girl and an ornery, smart ass, country boy would have ever made a good pair. Admittedly, not me (at least initially). But Kendall did, and I’m so glad he persisted in persuading me to give us a chance so very many years ago. Love and laughter are indeed quite magical, and I adore the life we’ve built together.
I wish you a happy and hilarious day!
🙂
