Have you ever experienced buyers’ remorse in reverse? You know, instead of regretting a purchase and giving yourself a guilt trip about it, you actually wish you had bought the dang thing much sooner and are kicking yourself for dithering about it for so long…? The latter would be the case for this Fun Find. Which is why I’m sharing it with you. My hubby and I saw these awesome sun shades all over the beaches YEARS ago. And I wish we had bought one then!
I love, love, love the ocean!!! I could (and do) sit on the beach and listen to the waves all day. I do not love to cook in the sun. I’ll take a hard pass on the sweating and skin cancer, thanks very much. (If sunbathing is your thing, good for you; please wear sunscreen.) For me, the ocean is best appreciated under some shade, in a comfy chair, with a good book and a cool drink. And while this set up is ideal, toting everything to the beach (even when you’re staying oceanfront) is not always easy.
And that’s why I’m sad we didn’t buy this sun shade years ago. We go to the beach, um… a lot, and it is infinitely better than anything we’ve used before. Yes; it’s a bit expensive (in my opinion), but it’s totally worth every penny. It comes in a smallish pouch with an easy to carry handle that can be slung over your shoulder, and it’s lightweight. Also, setup is a breeze (pun intended). The shade is essentially a giant tentpole with a huge silky flag. You simply put the pole together, slide the fabric on, and stick each end of the pole in the sand. Then, voilà… the fabric sails in the wind and you sit under its shade. It’s amazing. (I suppose I could note that it also has a sandbag counterweight if it’s extra windy, but I’m lazy and haven’t felt the need to use it.)
So, if you are planning a beach trip in the near future (yay!! good for you), I highly recommend getting one of these before you go. I’m willing to bet you absolutely love it.
PS: When we first saw these, and I looked into buying one, I got sticker shock and scoffed saying that I could surely find one cheaper online. As it turns out, they’re pretty much the same price everywhere I’ve seen them. (Sorry…)
