Check out this easy project idea that can either be a thoughtful gift, or something fun to keep for yourself! It’s a cinch to make and will cost less than a few dollars to assemble (maybe just a $1 if you already have most of the supplies).

My family and friends are big into puzzles, so this Photo Fun project was perfect. I put my finished product in a gossamer bag with an additional print (for reference) and gifted it to a family member. The recipient loved it! See below on how to make your own photo puzzle.

Supplies:

  • Set of wooden cubes in desired size (I bought mine at the Dollar Tree)
  • A photo print that will cover the surface of the cubes
  • Craft glue
  • Box cutter
  • Cutting board
  • Washi tape

Directions:

Put all the wooden cubes together (flat and in one layer) so that there are no gaps between blocks. Then wrap the outside edge of the gathered cubes with washi tape so that they won’t move about. Once the cubes are securely in place, generously apply craft glue to the tops of all the cubes and firmly press your photo print on top (with the image facing up). Then give the glue ample time to dry (I left mine overnight).

Next, remove the washi tape and place the cubes face down on a cutting board and cut off any excess photo paper hanging over the outside edges. Last, cut the cubes apart. This is more easily done by folding a row of cubes inward to form a crease to cut along, and then doing the same creasing/cutting process for each individual block in that row, and simply repeat until all the rows and blocks are cut apart. Also, it probably goes without saying, but use caution when handling a box cutter (and obviously this is not a task for children).

Remember, you can get really creative with this and use thoughtful portraits or even something like a landscape photograph. You can also make them as big or as little as you like by simply increasing or decreasing the number of blocks and size of your print.

I hope you have fun with this! I can’t wait to see what you create.

🙂
