Summer is in full swing, the weather is beautiful, and it’s time to get out of the house. I’ve got just the thing if you’re looking to have a mini adventure. How does a photo scavenger hunt sound?
I think it sounds grand! I love a good scavenger hunt and anyone can guess how I feel about photography haha. I thought this would be perfect inspiration for creative imagery. I’m constantly looking for someplace interesting to photograph, and I sometimes forget that you don’t always have to have a destination; there are times when you just need to go and enjoy the journey in its entirety.
Apparently these are wildly popular for a variety of different settings so you may want to do some web surfing for additional themes if you enjoy such things. I will actually be creating more, so stay tuned…
Ok, now on with the hunt! In an effort to make the list reusable and exciting every time, I’ve added the coin flip instead of a designated area.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- a coin
- the scavenger hunt list
- camera or smartphone
- mode of transportation
- a partner to flip the coin if you’re driving a vehicle (we don’t want any coin flipping related accidents!)
The basic directions go as follows. At each intersection or opportunity, flip your coin to decide if you’re going to turn right or left. Heads for a right turn, tails for a left. Along your journey, look for the items/scenes on the list. Don’t forget to set a time limit or designated mileage so you don’t forget to turn around and go home. On that note, you may want to write down your turns so you remember the way back!
If you’re the competitive type, you could always do this with a group and split up into teams. Another option if you’re “playing” with a group is to incorporate Instagram and tag your images for added fun.
