Do you remember when you were a kid and your parents would get you those paper advent calendars – the ones where you peel back the little door to reveal a tiny chocolate in the shape of a wreath (or some other holiday symbol)? I freak’n loved those things!
Well, I never got over my enthusiasm for a chocolate advent calendar, or chocolate in general for that matter. And I’d like to share a similar tradition that you just might want to start. By the way, you can totally do this even if you don’t have kids (because this is a judgement free zone, folks). But since you’re reading the Kiddo Corner section, I’m betting you do…
Anyway… Some years back, I found this adorable wooden advent calendar that we’ve been eagerly scarfing chocolate out of every December. (Yes; I put chocolate in there for me too.) Obviously, it’s pretty simple… You load the drawers with your favorite candy and enjoy the thrill of the countdown. I think the nice thing about this particular advent calendar is that it has some fairly roomy drawers to be so small, and instead of waxy, generic chocolate from the paper ones, you can fill it with say, Lindor Balls. (I’ve gotten snobby about chocolate.) Olivia happens to like chocolate kisses. Heck, you could fill it with bubble gum if you wanted; or toys, or jewelry and gem stones… Dang, now that would be cool, haha. (I digress…)
Another thing that I have stashed in each drawer is a piece of paper with a kid-friendly Bible verse that tells a little piece of the Christmas story one day at a time. (I found this fabulous and free printable here.) I love this particular addition since it’s a simple and meaningful reminder that Jesus is the reason for the season, after all. Though, if that feels a bit to “churchy” for you, an alternative idea might be to write little notes for each day, like reasons you love your kiddo or positive affirmations, or nothing at all – more room for chocolate, haha.
There are really so many options and I think that’s why I love it so much. You can customize it for you and your family. I hope you check it out and start an amazing tradition all your own. I know that we’ve certainly enjoyed it.
PS: Nope, I don’t receive any kudos, funding, or acknowledgements for this post. I simply love this product and wanted to share it with you.
