blue and purple friendship bracelets

My house looks like I’m either about to be embroidering the world’s largest needlepoint, or I’m planning a heist that involves making my own rope. Obviously, neither are true, but I am getting a little concerned about potentially finding myself tangled up in some sort of inadvertent string boobytrap… (Heaven help me if Legos are involved too.)

My daughter is suddenly and deeply immersed into the world of friendship bracelet making, and mercy – it’s a whole THING. We have string coming out the wazoo. Due to the threat to the cat, I have to remind her (daily) to keep it contained to her room. (Okay, fine; also, because I’m a neat freak.)

Honestly though… I’m impressed. Olivia has taught herself how to make a huge variety of friendship bracelets – all thanks to YouTube. She’s struggled, practiced, and perfected her techniques. (I totally applaud her effort!) And occasionally she tries to teach me how to make them. Every time, it’s painfully obvious that I need more practice. And now she’s onto paracord creations. – You know; actual rope… If you don’t hear from me, please check that I’m not tied up somewhere in my house, haha.

I must say that I’ve always loved friendship bracelets: the intricate knots, patterns, colors, and especially the meaning behind them. They’re just fun and sweet. If you, or your kiddo, might be interested in creating your own fancy string bling, Olivia has recommended this video to get started. (For a fleeting moment, I considered making my own video for you, and then laughed myself silly. Trust me, this person does a much better job.)

I hope you give it a shot. Cute bracelets and thoughtful gifts never go out of style.

PS: Olivia’s new obsession has got me thinking… when I do retreats in the near future, I may incorporate friendship bracelets into the event. (Stay tuned; and I guess I’d better start practicing, ha.)

🙂
