Want to add a bit of magic to your outdoor fun-in-the-sun activities? Breakout the bubbles and a whimsical bubble wand! Bubble wands are super easy to make and are sure to capture the hearts of young and old alike. (Even my tween thought this project was super cool and fun!)
Check out the details below for how to make your own spiffy and unique wand, and even a recipe for some homemade bubble solution. Let’s get this bubble party started!
Supplies:
- Jewelry wire (20 gauge)
- Large and medium decorative beads
- Needle nose pliers
- Wire cutters or sturdy scissors
~ Pipe cleaner and pony beads can be used instead if you have very young kiddos.
Directions:
Cut at least 10 inches of wire and bend the end to make a largish loop for the tip of the bubble wand, leaving a bit of a tail to wrap around the stem. (Olivia went rogue and just used her hands to make hers; I wrapped mine around a small bottle to make the loop.) Then, take the tail part and, using pliers, twist the wire firmly around the stem a few times to hold it in place. Next, add your beads however you like to adorn the stem and create a fancy handle. To finish it off, take the last bit of wire sticking out the end of your beaded handle and fold it in on itself (with pliers) to keep the beads from falling off. And there you have it. Your wand is ready for magic and memory making fun!
Bubble Solution:
Ingredients:
- 1 Tbs liquid dish soap (Dawn works great)
- 1 Tbs corn syrup or glycerin
- 9 Tbs of water
Directions:
Combine ingredients and stir gently so it doesn’t get super foamy. Or… mix vigorously and then let it sit for quite awhile to let the bubbles dissipate.
Have an awesome time! 🙂
PS: For me, bubbles are nostalgic. My granny adored bubbles and I can remember that she always had bottles of bubbles duct taped to the poles on the swing set in her back yard. And to this day, my family still has an affinity for bubbles.
