My daughter is a bit of a magpie… She likes to collect obscure items and squirrel them away in her room. Sometimes this is cute, and even a tad funny. Once she found a cheap earring on the playground and thought she’d discovered a long-lost treasure. Other times it borders on packrat status… Like the time she took a fascination with toilet paper rolls, for instance. I’m not exactly sure what she planned on creating (a fort maybe?), but I drew the line when I found her bathroom vanity crammed full of them!
If your kiddo also likes to collect “priceless” treasures, this fun craft is sure to be a hit. And as a parent, you’re likely to appreciate that the tin for storing them in is quite small. (Big emphasis on TINY treasures…) All you need is an Altoids tin and the printable that can be downloaded below. Easy peasy!
Some helpful tips… I printed out the example on teal cardstock, and embellished the tin with stickers, washi tape, and glitter. (I probably don’t have to tell you that glitter gets on everything.) I also used hot glue to adhere the designs to the tin. (I imagine E6000 craft glue works well too.) Obviously, your kiddo might need an assist with the hot glue part depending on how old they are, but otherwise, I recommend giving them free rein on coloring, painting, and decorating the printable and tin as they see fit. (Keep in mind, it’s totally up to you if you want to give them glitter to use, ha!)
I hope you find this project lots of fun, and that your kiddo has a blast collecting all the miscellaneous and miraculous little things that we adults take for granted.
Have fun! 🙂
